I'm experiencing light primer strikes with my AR Gold trigger. What could be the cause?

Light primer strikes are a relatively uncommon issue with our AR Gold triggers. In most cases, the problem stems from factors external to the trigger itself, such as ammunition or bolt rotation issues.

Common Causes:

  • Ammunition:
    • Ammunition with hard primers or inconsistent priming can lead to light strikes.
    • Try switching to a different brand or type of ammunition to see if the issue persists.
  • Bolt Rotation Issues:
    • If the bolt is not fully rotating closed, some of the firing pin's energy may be used to complete the rotation, resulting in a light strike.
    • This is more commonly observed in .308 platforms, but can occur in .223 as well.
    • This is essentially using the firing pin as a forward assist.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Change Ammunition: Begin by testing different ammunition to rule out primer-related issues.
  2. Inspect Bolt Rotation: Ensure the bolt is fully rotating and locking into position.

If the Problem Persists:

If the light primer strikes continue after trying different ammunition and verifying bolt rotation, we'd be happy to inspect your trigger to ensure proper functionality. Please contact us, and we will provide instructions on how to proceed with sending your trigger in for evaluation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Light primer strikes are rare with AR Gold triggers.
  • Ammunition and bolt rotation are the most common causes.
  • Try changing ammunition first.
  • If the issue remains, contact us for trigger inspection.
